Top 5 iOS 14 Features
iOS 14 is the fourteenth major update to Apple’s mobile operating system. After being unveiled at WWDC back in June 2020, it was released on September 16, 2020. In this iOS 14 update, the home screen has been redesigned for the first time ever since, and the company has also introduced more features in Messages, Siri, etc. In this article, we have collected the top 5 iOS 14 features that are popular among all iOS 14 running iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users.
01. Siri – Finally a Refreshed Design
Sometimes Siri can get left out when Apple speaks abouts its updates to iOS. Indeed, that was not the problem this year, with Apple giving the virtual assistant with a massive refresh as a gift, including substantial redesign and new abilities.
Sir is now capable of popping up with new animations and it provides specific widgets for questions such as “what’s the weather like?”. And finally, Siri is capable of sending messages and enhanced translation support with the help of the new Translation app. You don’t need an internet connection to work with these translation requests as it works offline.
Apple claimed that Siri now has 20x more facts than just three years ago. Therefore, it should definitely be better than before.
02. Home Screen – More Functional
The iOS homescreen has been redefined this time around by Apple Inc. there is a new space at the end of your homescreen called App Library that automatically groups apps together into larger, more visual folders. The top of the homescreen, there is a search and the company is using on-device intelligence to group suggested apps and most-used apps together. You can also find a dedicated Apple Arcade folder and another one from your recently downloaded apps.
03. App Clips – Ditch Always Downloading the App
Similar to Google’s Instant Apps, now Apple has App Clips. These are very useful mini apps that seem only when you need them and they don’t force you to download the complete app. If we take a car rental for example: you will be able to use a QR code or NFC to access the applicable portions of the app without searching inside the App Store.
This feature will help you to finally end the trouble of having loads of apps crammed into 4 or 5 pages on your homescreen that are hard to find apps among them.
04. Widgets – Resizable and Customisable
iOS 14 finally comes with Widgets. You can resize these widgets and they are looking far better than they used to be. You can also move them to your homescreen, instead of having them framed into the Today view and they will take the place of your normal apps.
Apple has shown a few examples, including ones for Podcasts, a Smart widget, and Weather. These examples look far better than the prior widgets and we suppose developers will think of building their own widget into their apps so that this functionality will continue across the board. The iPadOS that comes to iPad devices will also get this feature.
Users have been asking for this feature update to their device home screen for years, and finally, it is here.
05. Translate – A New App
You get a new app called Translate to the iOS 14 update. You can surely guess what it is by its name.
This is Apple’s competitor to Google Translate and it allows you to translate text or voice into a variety of 11 languages. The app works offline so that it is always a handy app even when you don’t have an internet connection.
